Is Creatine A Steroid?



The question of whether or not creatine is a steroid comes up more often than you might think. For sure, all of you who use creatine or have used creatine in the past know the answer. Steroids

  • sometimes called juice, roids, or crank
  • directly responsible for growth of muscle tissue
  • anabolic-androgen steroids (AAS) mimic the male hormone testosterone and dihydrotestosterone
  • encourages the growth of male characteristics such as vocal chords and body hair
  • used to induce male puberty in subjects for medical reasons
  • can encourage aggressive behavior

Creatine

  • creatine is naturally found in your body and is used by your cells to convert ADP back to ATP
  • creatine does not affect or mimic the male hormone testosterone
  • creatine is used by your body’s cells to replenish energy
  • cannot encourage aggressive behavior
  • will not on its own grow muscle tissue but aids or supports the growth of lean muscle tissue
